Yulin 2015

In recent news there has been a huge controversy surrounding the Yulin festival in China. This festival consists with the theft and cruel slaughter of dogs. Various celebrities such as Ricky Gervais and Ian Somerhalder have joined in on the campaign. I agree that this sort of festivals should stop, cruel massacre should never be acceptable, and they are slaughtering dogs, I say slaughter because there is no nicer way to put it, animals which are supposed to be man's best friends, but it's absolutely hypocritical on behalf of men to be standing up against this, but then immediately do it again, not with dogs, but cows, pigs and chicken.

I would like to clarify, I have been vegetarian since a little over two years ago, so I would like to be as unbiased as possible.

China has had a history of eating dogs for various years, yes, it's tradition, but it's a tradition that should be broken because they don't only kill "mans best friends" but they are stealing them from their owners, and killing an exaggerated amount of them, which should be unnecessary, they are purely doing it for the fun of it, however this is being disguised as making bad spirits go away. We can't absolutely stop a tradition that has been going on for decades, but we could change it.

In recent years the consumption of dogs has decreased gradually, more and more people are keeping them for security or company, with only 8.2% of the population keeping them for consumption. I understand that change can't be made in one day, but we should hope that in the future, the next generation make things right, all we have to do is hope for the best. Ultimately, hopefully, this is a dying tradition.

As to why I think it's hypocritical, it's basically because we are only defending dogs because they are cute, why don't we make a big deal about killing cows and chicken, just because they are not as "cute" as dogs does it mean that we can kill them. These are animals, just like them, they breathe, eat reproduce, etc. so why should we kill cows too. We say we protect animals, but everyday people unconsiously are eating slaughtered animals, because nearly all of the meat that you buy from the supermarket comes from a factory farm.

So I would like to end by just asking a question why would slaughtering dogs be any different than cows, they are killed nearly the same way?

Change In The World

Earlier this week Ingrid Nilsen, a beauty guru that I have been subscribed to for quite a long time, came out as a lesbian. During all of the time that I was subscribed to her channel every time I watched one her videos I felt like something wasn't really there, now she finally let it all out and it's amazing, because she didn't only have to tell her close ones, but she had to tell this to a much larger audience.

Basically what I think is that, at least from what I can recall, she is the first female Youtuber of that scale, she has appeared in project runway and was featured in magazines, that has come out as gay. As soon as she first said it in her video you can absolutely feel all of the range of emotions that she is feeling, it nearly made me cry.

Truth is, that after seeing this video it made me want to look forward even more to her future video, we can finally meet the real Ingrid.

So, how can this actually change the world?

Because Ingrid was the first beauty guru to come out she is inspiring us to be ourselves, to not worry about what other people will say about us, and this will change the world because at least people from my generation, the youtube generation (at least that's what I think), will finally have someone that is that close to us, someone that we watched everyday that we arrived from school. Yes, the likes of Joey Graceffa, Connor Franta and Troye Sivan have come out, but they are not women, you can say all about gender equality, but it's not the same, we have to see a female figure that conquers her fears, and I think that Ingrid can become the new figure of change.

In her video she said "I want to live my life unapologetically, because I'm proud of who I am", that was the most powerful thing she said for me in the video, this can not only apply to this sort of situations, but because of this video she made me realize that we can't live repressed by the things that are around us, if we want to do something, we have to do it, if we want to love someone, love anyone, we have to live an “I want to live my life unapologetically, because I’m proud of who I am,” she says. and fearless life, and I know that I'm not there yet, but I hope that I get there one day.

May Favorites

Another month has come and gone, we are midway through the year!

This past may I have been using a bunch of new products that I have come across during the year, this are the ones the ones that I have been using the most this month.

I would like to talk about this three products as one big one. This three products complement each other in a way I never thought possible. I always wanted my hair to be big and voluminous, well, the shampoo and the conditioner help me with that, an the spray makes it stay there, because in the past my hair was dull, dry, and flat, plus these products smell just like the beach and makes me feel like it's summer.
*A little heads up on this product, it's a solid conditioner, personally I love these, but depends on the person.

- H'Suan Wen Hua: I had never tried any of Lush's hair treatment in the past, normally just going to the hair salon to get my treatments, but this has changed my life completely. I am excited to trying more of the treatments.
(Clearly I have grown a Lush obsession in the last few months)

- Rosie For Autograph Fragrance: When I was over in the UK, I was shopping with one of my friends and we came across this perfume, she convinced me to buy it, and now i use it nearly every day. This perfume smells just like flowers, and who wouldn't want to smell like flowers all day?

- Rituals Sensational Foam Cleanser: Warning, this isn't soap, this is a gel, and since I have started using this product my breakouts have nearly stopped, except on the occasional pimple or two, which is not that much considering my past.

- Naked 2 Palette: A little late with this one, but I just bought it, and I used it nearly every day when I was on holidays, this is definitely a must have for traveling, because its rather compact for all of the colors you are taking.

New Beginnings

Lately I have been just enjoying my little summer holidays, spending it with the family, eating a lot of delicious food, spending most of my time at the beach, those are kind of my little excuses.
Right now I am about a week and a half from starting school, so I think that I should just restart my blog once again.

Gone, gone gone...
I am literally the worst at doing things on time, I like to think myself as a procrastinator, which is definitely NOT a good thing, but it happens. I have had quite the number of detentions during the last three years to prove it. I should really start focusing.
As I previously put it, I was kind of enjoying being with the family before I start school once again on March, so that is the main reason why I am gone.
I have also been meeting with friends every once in a while, just to catch up on things.

Things I want to do this year...
This is kind of late, seeing as its NEARLY MARCH!! (time just flies) but this past, nearly, two months have kind of been a period of hibernation, and they have been quite relaxing, many people don't actually get to do this, so I am quite grateful.
Here are the things that i have/want to do...
  • Travel more; this is kind of a recurring one in nearly everyone's list right?
  • Repaint my room/ reorganize it

Airports, And Stuff....

Hi guys,
I'm currently writing this from the airport, I'm flying to Cali right now. two thumbs up

I'm taking time to write five expectation that I will have from this trip, I think that I will do this before every trip:

  1. I will learn how to paddle board (Hopefully)
  2. I will learn how to surf (Hopefully I don't break my face)
  3. Go swimming with sea lions
  4. I will buy the chips ahoy that one of my friends asked me to buy
  5. I will finally tan a little
In about two weeks time i hope to have accomplished at least three of these.

Wish me luck...

Travel Playlist

I just came back from rather short trip to Medellin, Colombia, and while i was there, my music playlist was shaken up a little. I believe that it has changed for the better, but I will let you make that decision.
This is my Medellin playlist...

  • Two Fingers - Jake Bugg
  • Maybe I'm Amazed - Paul McCartney
  • Dazed & Confused - Led Zeppelin
  • Skinny Love - Bon Iver
  • Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall - Coldplay
  • Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - Elton John
  • De Musica Ligera - Soda Stereo
  • Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Led Zeppelin
While I was there I also listened to new and different bands, but due to me being so absent minded I forgot the name of most of them, that happens quite a lot...

Those are some of the songs that I have been listening to ever since I got back,
Now I have to wait just a few more days till I am off to another place.

Adventures Ahead

I have been gone from my blog quite a long time, but it's because I just had to sort out a few things in my life for quite some time.
We all need a break sooner or later....

Right now I'm rather happy because in a few days I'll have the opportunity to start traveling once again to an (i think) much deserved break from reality.

These past few months have been rather hectic for me, from one shake up to another, I'm just trying to get up once again.

I have also been doing some serious netflix marathons, Almost Famous or Dazed and Confused anybody?

But, yeah, hopefully I'll be able to write all about my, hopefully, amazing adventures ahead.

Here are a few things that I have been doing while I disappeared

Exams, Exams & More Exams

Recently I have been studying non-stop for my finals this year, specially for my maths and economics finals.

I have too much pressure on my shoulder right now, I'm juggling between planning a party, getting, at least, a 15 or more in my finals, dance rehearsals (did I forget to mention that I'm having a really important party that same day) three times a week, going to the gym every week day, having my chinese classes, and doing regular homework.

Stress, Stress, STRESS!

I would much rather like to be reading all day, and going out with my friends, literally ANYWHERE!
As a little push for me to succeed I said to myself while looking at the mirror, "Ok Marisa, you are going to pass all of these exams, and you are not going to have to worry about extra studying during your holidays, and you are going to treat yourself by going on a trip to somewhere nice, maybe buy cute shoes, dresses, more makeup, and go out a little more".

Obviously, I have a really short attention span, and just after a little more than 45 minutes of study, you can find me watching the all new season of project runway (in love with the designers, specially , watching some YouTube videos (specially Zoella, Beauty Crush, Miss Glamorazzi or Tanya Burr) or just lying in bed, looking at the ceiling, listening to some music.
I think I should really start paying more attention in my studies. (Started craving some frozen yogurt at this point)

These are the courses that I'm taking:
      • Spanish
      • English (Literature & Language)
      • Maths
      • P.E. (Theory)
      • Art (A FOUR HOUR EXAM! *yes i know that it is originally 8 hours)
      • Economics
      • Biology, Physics & Chemistry
They don't really seem like much, but when you have to study all of the subject that you have learned since March, it's quite a lot.

So, What is my study plan?
Everyday I get to go back home after my exams, so i have more than 12 or so hours to study.
What I will do is that by every hour or so of study I will have from 15- 20 minute breaks to watch a YouTube video, or see a little bit of TV, her some music, or read a little. I think that that is quite good. Today I'm going to try to finish most of my science studies, and I'll see what happens during my exams.

Who knows, maybe if i really study correctly you will see me writing some posts from NYC, LA, or maybe just some from what I have been doing with my summer (over here we have summer from January till March), obviously not studying.
Wish Me Luck... i need it
Bye

Saturday Night Obsessions - Gossip Girl

"...And who am I?

That's one secret I'll never tell.

You know you love me.
Xoxo... Gossip Girl"

That line gave me the chills.

Yes, this series has been gone for almost a year, but I'm still crying due to the fact that it ended.

With this show I fell in love with fashion, Chace Crawford, and most importantly, New York city. I think that New York is one of the best cities in the world, I could write a lot about how much I love it, but I think that that would be too much writing for this blog.

Why do I love this show?
Why not? It has everything.
I could just stay here for days writing about the fashion and the shots from the city are just how beautiful are the sights of the city.

The next time I go to New York I would like to stay at the Empire hotel, have lunch at the plaza, sit down on the steps of the MET and go shopping with either Blair or Serena, maybe both of them. I also wouldn't mind if they could take me to a party or something like that, and maybe a weekend at the hamptons.
This show has also had a huge influence in my wardrobe, aside from Blair's and Serena's wardrobe, I really liked how
Vanessa dressed sometimes.
Who wouldn't like to go to their parties, so high class and full of important people (AND A LOT OF DRAMA)
I think that the more I think about it, I wouldn't really want want that life that much, maybe just the fashion, and not the drama, but the GUYS from that show. Chace Crawford is so dreamy, I wouldn't mind meeting him, or have a Chuck Bass in my life.

If you haven't seem this show, I seriously recommend this to you.

And I guess that's it, I will leave you with the simple words of gossip girl...

You know you love me,
xoxo
That was just plain weird,
Bye ❤️

Edgar Degas

Recently in my art class I have been researching about impressionism.

What is impressionism, you may ask...
Well, it is a style of art that was founded by a group of parisian artist back in the 19th century. The group was formed by artist like Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, Paul Cezanne, Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley and Berthe Morisot.

Edgar Degas is probably one of my favorite painters, this is because, since I am a dancer, I love how he represents them in most of his paintings;
These are some of my personal favorites.
Dancer in her dressing room, 1879

Two dancers o stage, 1877

The step with battement, 1979

The green dancer, 1879

Dancers in pink 1885

Dance class at the opera, 1872
The main reason why I like so much Degas is because of the way that he captures the movement, and how he paints women so well, with every single detail.
